It’s Thursday, and it’s time for Sing Show!-and-Tell!!
This week’s Mini Maker Moment featured our Guest Maker, Sienna. In the episode, we made some pretty cool (and simple) Paper Puzzles featuring things that are “better together.” Click here if you missed the song from our first episode of this series, “You Are and Old Friend.”
In class, we started this project by creating lists of “Things that belong go together” or “Things that are better together.” We journaled about this for a bit, then shared our ideas, and then created our puzzles on 6”x 6” watercolor paper.
An idea I had while working on this project is to use regular paper and glue the artwork onto cereal box cardboard before cutting the puzzle pieces. A great solution if you don’t have the watercolor paper, or if you want a more sturdy puzzle.
One of the big “ah-ha” moments for many of the kids was realizing that the process of creating the puzzles took much longer than the video. Many were at first disappointed that they would not get to cut their puzzles until the next day to let the paintings dry first. Some didn’t realize that the 5 minute video they watched was cut down from over an hour of video.
Understanding and appreciating the amount of time that goes into creating something of quality and worthwhile is an important lesson, and one that is not easy to digest in our culture of time-lapse, quick-cut, and sped up video lessons.
Making is different than watching a video of someone else making! It is a slow process in need of time and patience.
Here’s a sampling of a few of our pieces.
Breaking News!!!
If you have been following our Sing Show! LIVE social media, you know that this week we were featured on the Kelly Clarkson Show! We have been keeping it under wraps for several weeks now, and that was REALLY HARD!
Well, the secret is out! If you missed it, or you just want to share it with everyone you know, here it is… in all it’s glory! And look! Dahlia made the thumbnail!
As if this wasn’t enough, we also did a live segment on the local Channel 3 News. What a day! We are so honored to have had these opportunities to share Sing Show! with more people. We look forward to watching our family grow as we continue to create new content and episodes into the future.
Puppets!
Finally, we are excited to share the final installment of our Wee Little Sing Show! Puppet Theatre’s adaptation Aesop’s “The Lion and the Mouse.” One thing we plan on doing with our class is to read the original story, and then compare and contrast Aesop’s fable with this version.
We are trying something different with this series by breaking up the story across the 3 episodes. Let us know what you think, and don’t forget to let us know if you enjoyed this newsletter by “liking” the post or leaving a comment. We love to hear from you!
And as always, keep singing! We’ll see you on Sunday!
